TROLL BRIDGE CREEK RECEIVES FUNDING TO INVESTIGATE PACKAGING OF KIKI MAPLE SWEET WATER FOR THE GLOBAL MARKET: New investment will prove valuable to opening up new markets for this Ontario company
Arthur, ON, September 19, 2013 – Troll Bridge Creek is undertaking a new project to develop solutions for ongoing maple syrup export problems associated with settling, flavouring, nutritional labelling, and package weight. These solutions are expected to benefit maple syrup producers in Ontario and across Eastern Canada as new, higher volume markets for sap emerge.
Specifically, this project will develop techniques for product preservation and improved settling characteristics, and explore new light weight packaging options that will reduce shipping and handling costs. Working with Ontario-based institutions like Conestoga College, the results of this work will be made available to maple sap producers through the Ontario Maple Syrup Producers Association.
“We’re very pleased and appreciative to have support from the Canadian Agricultural Adaptation Program (CAAP), as it recognizes the importance of product diversification and new opportunities,” says Keith Harris, CEO of Troll Bridge Creek Inc.. “Without this support, we would not be able to realize our market potential in domestic and foreign markets, and we believe that this can provide significant returns to our Ontario maple sap producers.”
By connecting Conestoga College’s Craig Richardson Institute for Food Processing Technology (CRIFPT) with Troll Bridge Creek’s needs, it is hoped that new technologies can be developed to enhance the preservation characteristics of the KiKi Maple Sweet Water® original product, creating a shelf-stable product. At the same time, the beneficial nutritional profile of the KiKi Maple Water will be unchanged.
“We are pleased to be working with Keith Harris at Troll Bridge Creek to help him develop this important Ontario-based product,” says Luis Garcia, Chair of the CRIFPT. “It is through working with clients like Keith that we can provide very tangible support to the industry to create new opportunities and new wealth.”
This investment will also support the development of new markets for this Ontario-based company.
Investment in this project has been provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through the CAAP. In Ontario, this program is delivered by the Agricultural Adaptation Council.
